Importance of Reading
In our continuing efforts to support independent reading, the English Department is thrilled to announce that grades 7 and 8 Language and Literature classes are currently trialling Accelerated Reader, the most widely used K–12 reading practice programme worldwide. AR is designed to help students progress with the supervision of their English teachers. Students are encouraged to choose books individually and at their personalised reading level, completing quizzes along the way to strengthen their reading ability. Setting personal goals and making independent reading choices will support and engender a lifelong enjoyment of reading. Please ask your child to show you!
Grade 8 - ISA Testing
The ISA assessment is designed specifically for students in international schools in Grades 3– 10. It is based on the internationally endorsed reading, mathematical literacy and scientific literacy frameworks. This year, Grade 8 will be taking the tests which analyze concepts in mathematical literacy, reading and writing. Data received from this test benchmark our students against others worldwide and Subject Group Departments and Grade level teachers study and compare ICS curriculum sequence with concepts and skills tested. They identify strengths and areas of improvement regarding the ICS curriculum and allow teachers to further develop subject work at a more individualized level.
