Youth Leadership: NAE-UNICEF Summit 2021

This July, Grade 11 Students Melis and Norah represented ICS at the NAE-UNICEF Summit 2021. This online event allowed students from all over the globe to have their voices heard and collaborate on ways to effect positive change as related to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Melis and Norah G11 Nord Anglia Education NAE UNICEF Summit 2021

Here’s what Melis and Norah had to say about the experience:

We had the amazing opportunity of attending this year's New York UNICEF Sumit organized by Nord Anglia. Due to the current pandemic, the summit was done online where we had the chance to connect and get to know other Nord Anglia students involved and interested in projects surrounding social justice. We were able to talk to UNICEF executives as workshops regarding advocacy, the SDGs, and ideas surrounding World Children's day were discussed.

We were able to discuss ideas that could be implemented in our school that would tackle the global goals as well as activities that we could organize with other Nord Anglia Schools. This was a great experience as we were able to meet other students who shared similar interest to us and we had the chance to share and listen to other ideas, resulting in us becoming more globally minded.

One of the highlights of the summit was attending this year's United Nation High Level Political Forum where we had the chance to listen to youth leaders from different parts of the globe as well as UNICEF and UN representatives. Ione Belarre, the social minister of social rights and the 2030 agenda, talked about the global goals and highlighted the importance of having young people in leadership roles.

Having attended the HLPF was an incredibly insightful experience as we were able to take part in an environment which provides young people with a platform and encourages us to take part in leadership roles. Norah and Melis, G11 Students

Congratulations to both of our students!
