Christmas Bag Project

On Thursday we welcomed 45 children from the Lautu Learning Centre and the Mizo Learning Centre - two separate refugee centres in Kuala Lumpur - for children from Myanmar. The children were welcomed by year 9 BSKL Award students and taken first to the Sports Hall for an exciting hour of dodgeball and badminton; they had a fantastic time and couldn’t believe how much space they had to run around in.

After playing sport the Year 9s took the children to lunch where they ate together. The Year 9s helped serve fruit and drinks and ensured the children had an enjoyable time.

Following lunch the Year 7 BSKL Award students organised a wide range of activities for the children which included a Christmas arts and craft area where they painted and made Christmas cards. They also decorated cookies and cakes which were very generously baked by a group of year 7s.

There was also a couple of exciting games of pass the parcel, with lots of lovely prizes donated by more BSKL Award students in year 7. Games of jenga, monopoly and giant lego also helped fill the room with lots of laughter and much entertainment.

Christmas carols were then played by the fantastic brass ensemble led by Mr Murray and his team of music teachers and students. Everyone present had a fabulous time singing and bopping along to carols, we definitely got into the Christmas spirit.

BSKL Award students from Years 7 and 9 gave out the Christmas bag donations during some of the carols; it was a very touching and incredibly heartwarming  moment to see the excitement on the children’s faces as they looked inside their bags.

Overall, the afternoon was a wonderful success and as we mentioned last week this is largely down to your generous donations, thank you again.

Merry Christmas, Ms. Fletcher and Ms. Su Lin Khoo
