Primary Chinese New Year Celebrations

On Friday 25th January our Primary Chinese New Year Assembly took place. All students from EYFS to Year 6 were involved in some amazing performances.

The children had been practising hard for a number of weeks under the guidance of Mandarin staff. Performances included traditional Chinese dancing, poetry recitals as well as the traditional Chinese instrument 'Guzheng'.

The Primary campus was decorated with wonderful Chinese dragons and Chinese lanterns made by the pupils. Both pupils and staff got into the spirit of the festival, wearing either red or traditional Chinese garments.

Children and parents were also treated to a Lion Dance on the astroturf. Everyone gasped with delight at the dancing, jumping, lifting and orange rolling which had children running around.

Head of Primary, Mr Sharp, was presented with a scroll towards the end of the dance - although no-one told him he would get showered with orange peel!

You can view all of the photos from this spectaular event on our Facebook page and view the assembly in full on our Youtube channel.
