Year 9 & 10: World Mathematics Championships Junior Qualifier

On the 2nd-3rd March 2019, 12 students from Year 9 and 10 participated in the World Mathematics Championships Junior Qualifier in Ho Chi Minh City. Students took part in 9 rounds over 2 days that tested their ability to work both individually and as part of a team.

These rounds were structured under the three broad headings of communication, knowledge and creativity and prizes were awarded for best participants in each category as well as top overall scorers in the competition.

The following students not only achieved great success in this competition, but also qualified for the World Mathematics Championships final in Melbourne on 1st-7th July 2019. This fantastic opportunity includes twelve rounds of mathematics over a full five days of competition. Immediately after this competition, students have the option to stay within Trinity College Melbourne for their “Young Leaders Programme”, a further education programme where they will join like minded students in lectures and workshops and will be assigned a university mentor for the duration of their stay.

Our congratulations go to Misha Shahnaz (Year 10), Meryl Lim (Year 10), Libby Toulmin (Year 9), Gabriel Ciccu Falcon Lins (Year 9), Jessica Gan (Year 9) Lara Merican (Year 9), Hao Ping Yau (Year 9) and Lihito Akai (Year 9); of whom Misha, Gabriel, Lara, Lihito and Libby have confirmed their places in the final competition. We look forward to hearing more about this exciting opportunity.
