Best Effort Forward - NAIS Manila Outstanding Student Award Term 1

It is often the case within the teaching profession to be drawn towards students who aren't quite working as hard as they could be or meeting the expected standards for attitude to learning.

As a result, students who are consistently working as hard as they possibly can are sometimes left unnoticed.

At NAIS Manila, we believe it is important that these students are recognised and rewarded for their efforts.

From the start of this academic year, Miss Wright  (Assessment and Intervention Coordinator) set up a new assessment and tracking system that allows for more regular monitoring of students attitude to learning and attainment levels across all taught secondary subjects.

During Term 1, teachers inputted three sets of data which includes Attainment Data and an Attitude to Learning 1-4 (1 being outstanding) Grade.

On 28th February, 7 students from across the four year groups within Secondary were recognised for achieving 1 (Outstanding) Attitude to Learning Grades across all subjects for all three key data capture cycles from Term 1. This equates to 24 separate teacher Attitude to Learning Grades being created as evidence that  are consistently working above and beyond the expected effort and approach to learning level set by the Secondary Teaching Team.

To recognise this fantastic achievement, the awardee students and their parents were invited to receive recognition certificates during a morning coffee and cake awarding ceremony with  the school principal. It was great to see the positive atmosphere in and around Mr. Kirkham’s office.

The closing message from Mr. Kirkham was that the bar has been set high and our new challenge is to keep working at and beyond this outstanding level.

"As a school, it is important to recognise and reward attitude to learning and effort in any task a student is asked to complete. If a student has the right attitude to learning puts in their best effort every time, attainment of the highest grades they desire will follow.

This effort will become a part of their character as they mature enabling them to be more successful in their studies and future careers."

Mr. Kirkham - Principal

My congratulations again to Marcus A, Marcus L, Julianne, Julie, Bai-Lin, Angela and John.

We hope to see more students in when the end of Term 2 Attitude to Learning Grades are submitted.
