Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 09/06/2017

09 June 2017

‘Be Ambitious’ is the one unifying philosophy that links all 44 Nord Anglia Education schools together.  We may be located across the world and have very different contexts, but we are all ambitious for our students, our people and our family of schools.  This attitude has been apparent in so many different ways at Tu Xuong this week.

Congratulations Ms Mary – Our Champion

Performance 2

Last weekend Ms Mary competed in ‘The Challenge Championship’ in Samorin, Slovakia.  Athletes from across the world gathered to swim, cycle and run around the course.  Over the last few months Ms Mary has spent hours training and preparing with her sights firmly set on the goal of getting over the finishing line and achieving her ambition.

You can read how Ms Mary got on in her account here:

Ms Mary was not the only member of our school community taking part in a multi-disciplinary event last weekend.  A number of children from TX took part in the BIS aquathlon which involved both swimming and running.  Well done to everyone who took part!

Maths BVIS 3

Ambitions are not limited to the field of sport.  8 children from Year 5 and Year 6 took part in the Saigon Maths Challenge at BVIS.  The standards are high at such interschool events.  You can read the details and thoughts of the children in Mr Rob’s post below, however, a special mention must go to Benz who came second in the individual competition by one mark!

Year 6 Bag for Life

Bag 4 life

In assembly this morning, our house captains highlighted the issue of our seas being polluted by plastic waste.  They informed us that by the year 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.  Instead of getting a plastic bag every time we go to the supermarket, we can be part of the solution by taking a ‘Bag for Life’ with us. The reusable bags come in 2 different designs and will be on sale in the foyer from Monday for 50,000VND.

And Finally…

Please be aware that this weekend is the last weekend for clubs.  Although there is no Vietnamese after school on Tuesday for our children in Year 5 and 6, Vietnamese will continue until Tuesday 20th June.

When we set ourselves ambitious goals, we are usually wanting to make a change.  It may be completing a gruelling ironman challenge, achieving success in a maths competition or making a difference to the future of our planet by always using a bag for life.  You could also make a difference next week.

Monday is World Blood Donor Day!  The BBGV along with AMCHAM have organised a donating room at the Caravelle Hotel between 7.30am and 10.30am.  This is a super cause to support, so if you are available, please donate.  More details can be found here.

Have an ambitious weekend,

Ian Battersby/ Head of Tu Xuong Campus
