We woke to a beautiful morning, ate an  excellent breakfast and then split into two groups.

Following the Bike Safety Talk, Group A rode on to the magnificent Mahjianglong Diaolou Cluster – these unique circular and rectangular structures were built from the time of the Ming Dynasty up to the early 20th Century, resulting in more than three thousand buildings. Today, about 1800 remain, mostly abandoned, but now hold UNESCO World Heritage status. Students were truly in awe of this incredible sight.

Meanwhile, Group B transferred to Zi LI village, another Diaolou site but the structure of these buildings is more Western and are set amongst beautiful gardens and ponds – very peaceful and relaxing.  Here, students practised their skills of storytelling – a traditional and important form of communication that enabled people from different regions of China to swap information and ideas.

After lunch, the groups swapped activities.  A very thought-provoking and rewarding day.
