Fee & Tuition Policy due to Covid-19

The British School of Beijing offers a number of remissions and fee adjustments to reflect the current COVID-19 pandemic. The school recognises the exceptional circumstances that pertain to the current and past academic year and have developed a number of fee adjustments and additional tuition time in response to these circumstances. These apply to the academic year 2020/21 only and will be reviewed annually.

Payment Arrangements

Usually fees are paid annually or termly but for this year, 2020/21 monthly payment can be arranged in case of genuine hardship and this can be done directly with the school’s finance department. This new arrangement can help families budget for their school fees in these uncertain times.

In very pressing cases payment holidays can be arranged. These would be subject to individual arrangements made between the school and the family.

Annual Discount

A discount of 3% is available for all parents who pay their fees for the year in advance.

Hardship Fund

The School recognises that the COVID-19 Pandemic has had an impact upon all sectors of the economy and society. For some sections this has been greater than others, so Nord Anglia Education has made available to the school, funds to support individual families through this difficult period. Where a family has suffered directly because of the pandemic, a discount of up to 20% is available to help with maintaining their child at the school and not disrupting their education.

Any family who feel this applies to them should contact the Principal in the first instance outlining the issues that they face.

EYFS, Year 1 & 2 Discounts

The school recognises that the recent school closures had the greatest impact upon our youngest students and therefore is offering the following fee arrangements.

A 10% discount has been applied to fees. This will be included in the invoice that parents receive.

In the event the school campus closes for all year groups due to Covid-19, for a minimum period of two consecutive weeks, we will:

  • Offer families or in cases where their Company pays their child’s tuition fees, Offer the Company, either:
    • A credit for the next billing cycle; or
    • For annual payers - a credit or refund
  • For each week the school campus is closed (including the two consecutive weeks) and virtual online schooling is in place:
    • 20% support payment for EYFS teddies, Nursery and Reception (applied to each week campus is closed)
    • 15% for Year 1 (applied to each week campus is closed)
    • 10% for Year 2 (applied to each week campus is closed)

This refund policy does not affect the 10% discount which is place already. We hope that this will go some way to recognising the challenges that parents and our youngest students may face.

It is also worth mentioning that the period of online learning starting from the 17th of August to their year group’s respective return to campus dates according to the attached schedule, will not be charged for at all.

These range of measures cover both a discount and protecting parents in the future.

Bus, lunch and ASA fees

Any bus fees not used during the period of campus closure will be credited back against future fees and in the event of a student leaving and being unable to do this, a refund will be made.

Any unused ASA fees can be credited against future fees or refunded.

There is no separate fee charged for lunch and this is all included in the tuition fee. This arrangement was specifically requested by parents and relates to the payment of fees by corporate bodies. Therefore no separate fee is charged or can be deducted from future fees.

Additional Tuition Time

In light of the school closures the school is providing additional tuition time, over and above the normal working times of the school. This is available to all students who have paid their fees for the previous school year (2019/20). This includes the following.

  • Saturday School
  • Extended School Day
  • Holiday schools for our youngest students

This additional tuition is designed to address any learning needs and missed opportunities that have resulted from the school closures. These have already started with the EYFS 3-week summer school and Primary STEAM school being delivered on line over the recent summer holiday period.

This combination of discounts, financial support and additional tuition time provides a comprehensive package to our students and their families. It will address any gaps in learning that have developed and also provide financial support.
