Student Council

Each School council represents the student body and voices concerns or improvements to the school, from what healthy foods are served at lunch to installing new play equipment in the playground.

  • Primary Student Council 2019-2020

Having A Say In Primary School

In Primary, our School Council is a group of pupils elected by their peers to represent the opinions and issues raised by other pupils then communicate back to the Headteacher and Principal. The School Council can also take forward projects on behalf of the pupils, and be involved in planning these projects by being in charge of implementing changes around the school. Students will have focus group sessions where they will discuss which ideas are possible to implement. They also have a page in the yearbook documenting the changes they have made throughout the year.

The School Council will  present at a assemblies to inform their peers and raise awareness about issues facing the world. They also work as a team to fundraise for their chosen charity ‘Dew Drops’, developing their empathy and giving them an understanding social responsibility.

Initially, Primary students can become involved by expressing an interest with their teacher and putting themselves forward when the vote takes place. Once on the School Council the children meet fortnightly to discuss issues and ideas raised by their peers. They will sometimes meet with the Principal and Primary head to discuss how they can implement changes. The main benefit of school council is to give pupils a voice within school life, experience of decision making, team work and confidence building.

Primary Student Council 2019-2020

Aim of the Council: To encourage a shared responsibility for aspects of day-to-day life at school and to develop a caring and co-operative community.

Leadership in the Secondary School

We know the importance of giving students the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, and we have a range of different ways to do this.

Each form group has a Form Representative who is elected by their peers. From the group of Form Representatives, a Year Representative will be elected whose job it is to summarise the ideas generated by each tutor group and deliver these to the Senior Leadership Team.  By opening these levels of communication, we can ensure that students’ views and opinions are considered during the formulation and review of policies that are relevant to the student body.

We also have positions for Head Boy and Head Girl who have the task of leading the whole of Secondary School student body and provide role models for the students to aspire to.  In fact, as the candidates for this post were so strong this year, we have also included a new post of ‘Deputy Head Student’ who will support both the Head Boy and Head Girl in performing their duties.
