In 2015 I started as a teacher of Design Technology in a new international school in Malaysia. At the end of my first year I was promoted to Head of Department for Expressive Arts. During my time there I developed an exciting KS2 & 3 curriculum that brought the concepts of 3D printing and laser cutting to pupils as young as 8 years old. I was also proud to be able to mentor a team of 17-18 year old pupils to represent Malaysia for the first time in the world finals of the Land Rover/Jaguar 4x4 Challenge. We walked away from the challenge very successful with the Marketing and Social Media award.
Over my ten-year career I have taught a range of technically creative and skills based subjects. My main focus has always been Resistant Materials and Graphics, but I have also taught Food Technology, Textiles, Art, Media Studies, Film Studies, Film Making and I have been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Rock Climbing.
Outside of teaching I have always been keen to take part in team based sports such as Football and Basketball, but my main passion (other than building things) is to travel. I have gone from coast to coast in the USA, covered many counties in Europe and have spent nearly every school holiday whilst in Malaysia exploring the various countries of S.E. Asia. China is a big country and I look forward to exploring the various delights from each of the provinces.
