A well-stocked and inviting library is one of the most valuable resources a primary school can offer and that’s exactly what we have at BSB Sanlitun. The role of libraries in education extends far beyond simply providing books; they serve as vibrant spaces that encourage exploration, creativity, and, most importantly, reading. For children in their formative years, having access to an engaging and well-curated library can significantly enhance their reading attainment and fuel their lifelong love for reading.

This week in Pre-Nursery, the children had an absolute blast taking part in STEAM Week—a brilliant chance to explore, create, and discover through lots of exciting, hands-on activities designed to spark their natural curiosity and imagination.

Our young learners in Nursery have been busy exploring the wonderful life cycle of plants! Through hands-on activities and lively discussions, the children have developed a deeper understanding of how plants grow from tiny seeds into tall, strong plants.

Our Year 4 students have been experimenting with creating their own phrases using Stravinsky’s melodic fragments. They were given four short building blocks to reflect on and discuss, before they worked in pairs to assemble the melodies using the same blocks. They shared their ideas in larger teams and played them on tuned percussion before we moved on to keyboards, ensuring accuracy of pitch and rhythms.

Our Year 1 and 2 students shone bright at this year’s KS1 Sports Day, showing off their team spirit, determination, and impressive sporting skills! From running and jumping to throwing and space hopping – they did it all with enthusiasm and heart.

Our young adventurers in Year 3 took on two days full of fun, laughter, learning, and a touch of bravery on their Residential Trip this week. They returned with stories, smiles, and some seriously impressive new skills.

This week, the Year 5 students embarked on an exhilarating adventure as they launched their new English unit focused on writing survival narratives. The school hub was transformed into a vibrant jungle, creating an immersive environment that engaged all their senses.

Not even the rain could dampen the excitement of our EY students on Sports Day! Thanks to our spacious indoor facilities, the event went ahead just as planned – filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of cheering.

This term, our Year 2 children have embarked on an exciting journey back in time to answer the question: "Who lived in a castle?" Through a range of engaging activities and hands-on experiences, they have explored the different roles in a medieval castle, uncovered the secrets of castle life, and connected their learning across multiple subjects.

Year 4 recently embarked on a thought-provoking unit of work, stepping into the shoes of Rainforest Detectives to solve a serious environmental mystery, in the hope of changing the future of the rainforest.

Recently, our Year 1 students have explored the exciting world of light and dark! They learned how shadows are made and when we can see them.

Storytelling is at the heart of everything we do, and it extends far beyond literacy. It is transdisciplinary, meaning children naturally integrate their knowledge of phonics into storytelling, create maths stories, and weave in elements of science, curiosity, and their understanding of the world.

This term, Year 2 have been learning about many interesting people in our ‘What makes someone inspirational?' Topic. They have explored space pioneers, technology forerunners, civil right activists, inventors and many other inspiring individuals.

We were delighted to welcome Hilary Easton from Juilliard school recently.

As part of our Literacy curriculum at BSB Sanlitun, we introduced the Drawing Club Literacy Programme. This innovative programme from the UK offers a unique and engaging approach to developing early literacy skills while fostering creativity and self-expression. Through drawing, children explore and visualise stories, making connections between images and words.

Year 5 students had the opportunity to visit an impressive exhibition of Shang and Zhou Dynasty artifacts at the Poly Art Museum. We are fortunate to have such wonderful museums close to our school - there are many benefits to being located in the heart of Beijing!
