Another amazing school year is coming to an end. Throughout the year, our dedicated parent volunteers have spent much time and effort at Chatterbox with one goal in mind - to help children in need.

Please see a summary of the charities supported by Chatterbox this school year.

TOTAL AMOUNT DONATED SEP 2017 - JUN 2018: 190,000 RMB

When appropriate, Chatterbox aims to provide ongoing support to help organisations continue the great work they do.

  • We have continued to support Yang Fan School for Children with Hearing impairment. This is a school in Chang Ping province about a 30 minutes drive from BSB. It helps children with lip reading and sign language with an aim to get them back into main stream education. This year we have sponsored 3 children at the school. The children are Lin Zi Heng (林梓恒), Xiang Cheng Hao (向承昊), Li Tao Gang (李淘刚).
  • We also continued our sponsorship for the Ningxia Students, a high school for impoverished families.
  • We have been supporting Bread of Life by selling its cakes at Chatterbox. Bread of Life is a bakery which is run by physically disabled young adults who grew up in orphanages. Its profits are used to help handicapped orphans and children, by providing funds for surgeries, wheelchairs and other needs. This year we gave additional support to this bakery by donating a sum of money to help them purchase a vehicle for their delivery purposes.
  • We have donated money to Hui Hui Foster Home.

During the year we had many other requests for help through events held at BSB.

  • We continued supporting the annual request from our very own Year 12 CAS students to help with a project in Bagan, Myanmar, paying for supplies to the monastery where the CAS students will go and help teach. This year, all proceeds from the sale at Chatterbox during the 2-day Secondary production “Oliver!” were donated to this project.
  • We have also pledged our support for a special child in foster care partnering with Roundabout. All proceeds from the sale at Chatterbox during the annual BSB Roundabout Book Fair were donated to help Chen Junnan. Junnan is a 6 year old boy who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and needed a bone-marrow transplant.
  • On top of the regular daily cafe operating hours, our amazing parent volunteers have worked endless hours on weekends during swim meets, sports events and BSB community events like the Car Boot Sale, BSB Global Cardboard Challenge, just to name a few.
  • We have participated and took the opportunities to raise more money during BSB annual events like International Day, Halloween Day, Santa’s Secret Shoppe and the Chinese New Year Temple Fair.

Last but not least, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and commitment. If you would like to join the team, please contact chatterbox@britishschool.org.cn.
