The British School of Beijing (BSB) Shunyi is excited to be named as a finalist for the China Schools Awards 2022 – Holistic Education Award organised by the British Chamber of Commerce in China!

The awards celebrate the achievement and best practice of international-oriented K12 education in China. Over 100 high-quality applications from schools all over the country were received and the final results will be announced on 24th February 2023.

The Holistic Education Award recognises the school that provides the most outstanding opportunities for students to develop skills outside the classroom and shows the greatest innovation and commitment in providing for their emotional, social, ethical and academic needs.

Our Principal Mrs. Jayne Needham said: "It does not surprise me at all that BSB Shunyi is finalists for the Holistic Education Award!  We are fully committed to providing a world-class, holistic education to our students. We are very lucky that we have the support of our whole community to offer a really wide range of activities, trips and experiences, in school and out, that help encourage and enable our children to find their passions, develop their skills, and to use them to make a real difference in the world."

Life Changing Experiences

This links with our education approach, “We open doors for our students by creating life-changing experiences”. As part of Nord Anglia Education's family of more than 80 international schools in 31 countries, BSB benefits from collaborations with world-leading organisations like The Juilliard School, MIT and UNICEF. We offer more than 300 different co-curricular activities and a variety of eye-opening trips for our students to go beyond the classroom, gain vivid experience, and broaden their horizons.

  • Mirjam, a Year 6 and Year 9 parent said: “My children have understood why they learn, it is a privilege to learn, and learning and knowing something is fun. They have learned to engage themselves in school community and it’s very rewarding to do so!”
  • Year 11 student Jaimee said: “The opportunity to participate in The World Scholar’s Cup has helped me grow as a person and in my academics, it’s an amazing experience for me to learn new things."

Global Citizenship

Our vision is “To shape a generation of creative and resilient global citizens – a generation that will change our world for the better.”

Community service is an essential part of BSB’s school life. We encourage students to become leaders in supporting charity projects - from our student-elect Student Councils representing each year group, to the IB Diploma CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) component, from our Years 10 to 13 students fulfilling the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Voluntary Service section, to our UNICEF teaching materials that inspired students to make a difference by tackling the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Year 13 student Jenny said: “At BSB, I can learn things I could not learn in textbooks, in school trips like Tanzania where I built school buildings and goat sheds for under-privileged families. It was the first experience where I really felt like I could do something to change the lives of others.”
  • Year 12 student Emily said: "I've gained leadership experience at BSB and helped in the Cochlear Training and Education Centre for auditory-impaired children. I learnt not to take anything for granted and be grateful for having a healthy body."
