What a wonderful school year we are having in Year 1! In our Mathematics lessons, we have been working with numbers. Students have been making and breaking amounts to build our confidence with the place value system. This has been supported with lots of practical equipment (manipulatives) to help develop conceptual understanding.
In our English lessons, we have been building our sentence powers. We have been extending sentences with connectives and making the sentences come to life by sprinkling in some lovely adjectives. This has been supported with lots of good examples of great language drawn from a range of high quality texts.
Across the rest of the curriculum, we have been making sure there are lots of practical opportunities to investigate materials and their properties and providing the students with lots of hands-on opportunities to make and do.
