To welcome the Spring Festival, both native and non-native students have learnt about the traditions and customs of the Spring Festival through a variety of classroom activities in Chinese class.

Reception students learn about the legends of the New Year and the customs of the Spring Festival through "The Story of the Spring Festival". They learn the order of the Chinese 12 Animals Zodiac through the story and song of the Chinese Zodiac and also try to recognise the characters of the 12 Chinese Zodiac through the traditional Chinese Oracle characters. Students are very interested in learning about it. They work together to make a dragon out of cardboard boxes and perform dragon dances in the class. They are very excited and enjoy learning the theme of the Spring Festival.

Year 1 and Year 2 students learn about Spring Festival customs through "Spring Festival rhymes and songs". They’ve also made cute little rabbits with play dough.

Year 3 and Year 4 students learn how to express Chinese New Year wishes and have fun handicraft activities about the Year of the Rabbit.

Year 5 and Year 6 students have gained a deeper understanding of the Spring Festival through rich activities such as writing Spring Festival couplets, writing the character of “Fu” (which means blessing), decorating classrooms, and creating stories of the “Nian” Beasts.

Some groups in Key Stage 2 have also experienced activities such as dumplings making, paper cutting, and quizzes about Chinese New Year customs.

Students are looking forward to the arrival of the Spring Festival. We hope that through the different activities and experiences in their Chinese lessons, students will have a better understanding of the traditions of the Spring Festival, so that they can also have a stronger interest in Chinese culture in future.
