To celebrate the Spring Festival Year of the Rabbit, secondary students learnt and experienced a series of Chinese cultural activities in Chinese classes.
Writing Spring Festival couplets is an activity that students are very interested in. Students can experience the smoothness and "difficulties" of traditional brush writing, and at the same time, they can also feel a sense of accomplishment when they see their own works.
Among all the activities, students are most interested in cutting traditional window flowers. After the simple folding and cutting, the ordinary red paper changes into various kinds of window grilles. We enjoyed a friendly competition where everyone wanted to cut out the most beautiful piece of window flower in class!
The ingenious Year 7 students also cut out a variety of rabbit papercuts to celebrate the coming Year of the Rabbit.
Year 10 Native Chinese students created poems in celebration of the Spring Festival. Please see a few selections below.
Students also had fun learning how to make their own traditional Lanterns to take home!
