Thank you to all our parents who attended the “Mathematics Workshop on Integrated Sets for Years 7 and 8 students” last week. Please see a video recording of the presentation above.
This workshop was hosted by our Head of Mathematics Ms. Cyneric Amegadzie. It aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of mathematics concepts to our parents by exploring connections between different topics. It focused on fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and strengthening problem-solving skills.
Using Bloom's Taxonomy, a framework for categorizing cognitive skills, we ensured that all ability groups were engaged and challenged in our Maths lessons. Bloom's Taxonomy consists of six levels: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. By incorporating activities and tasks that spanned these levels, we encourage our students to develop a range of skills and to think critically about mathematical concepts.
In the workshop, Ms. Amegadzie explained to parents about integrated sets, which involved exploring how different mathematical topics such as fractions intersect and relate to one another. This approach allowed parents to see the interconnected nature of mathematics and develop a holistic understanding of various mathematical concepts we teach our students at BSB.
Throughout the workshop, parents were expose to how the school makes students engage in activities that require them to recall and apply previously learned mathematical knowledge, understand and explain mathematical concepts, analyze and evaluate solutions, and even create their own mathematical models or strategies. This approach allow us to stretch all ability groups, ensuring that students were appropriately challenged and given opportunities for growth and development.
By utilizing Bloom's Taxonomy and integrating mathematical sets, BSB aims to provide a well-rounded and enriching learning experience for Year 7 and 8 students, fostering their critical thinking, problem-solving, and mathematical reasoning skills.
BSB Primary STEAM Week is a unique opportunity for our students to engage in exciting, hands-on activities that combine creativity, design, and problem-solving.
Year 5’s PIAW allowed the children to bring their learning to life and transport themselves to the period of time they explored in class.
