We are excited to celebrate International Mother Tongue Day at BSB with very exciting activities this year.
Why Celebrate International Mother Tongue Day?
International Mother Tongue Day celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of our languages, fostering unity and understanding at BSB.
Let's embrace the rich tapestry of our linguistic community together!
EYFS Collaborative Mother Tongue Assembly
In Early Years, Panda Bears (Nursery B) have been busy learning two different songs for International Mother Tongue Day.
We had a collaborative session where the German department, led by Mr. Goetz, worked together with the Panda Bears to learn an animal song, similar to the Chinese zodiac animals. This collaboration enabled the Panda Bears (Nursery B) to learn some German via a fun song with all the German students in EYFS.
Ms. Carol, who is from Kenya, taught the children a new song called "Hakuna Matata." The children also learned how to say hello in Swahili, which is "Jambo," and the popular phrase "Hakuna Matata," meaning "no worries."
Finally, some very brave children made individual performances in their native languages. Special thanks to Matthew, Aiden and Isabel W for the lovely stories in Chinese, as well as Richard for sharing a German story. Thank you Sam and Elena for singing a song each in Chinese and English respectively.
It was a fantastic assembly, watching the children embrace their mother tongue and bravely share in front of everyone. Well done!

BSB Primary STEAM Week is a unique opportunity for our students to engage in exciting, hands-on activities that combine creativity, design, and problem-solving.
Year 5’s PIAW allowed the children to bring their learning to life and transport themselves to the period of time they explored in class.
