At BSB Shunyi, all students in Years 1 to 6 participate in the Primary Instrumental Programme (PIPs) as part of our curriculum supported by the NAE-Juilliard Performing Arts Programme.
- Year 1-2 students study the recorder.
- Years 3-6 students have lessons on violin, cello, guitar, flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet or trombone.
- In Year 3, all students rotate every month to try out each of the 8 instruments. Then in Year 4, they choose which instrument they would like to study in depth and continue with that instrument until the end of Year 6.
Students are always excited on their PIPs days and show such enthusiasm. From Beethoven to pop music, the lesson days mean hundreds of Primary students are playing music on a variety of instruments and showing progress every week.
