Scottish Ballet - Romeo & Juliet

20 January 2015

The British School of Beijing have been provided with a unique experience.  We, as a school, have been able to take 45 students to the NCPA Theatre in Beijing to watch one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, set to dance and music.  The intention of the trip is to see the Scottish Ballet’s rendition of Romeo & Juliet.
The ballet has received rapturous applause from critics in the UK, with The Daily Telegraph entitling it ‘A Master class of Dance and Acting’.  The trip, which is taking place on Thursday 5th February, will allow students to experience not only a wondrous theatre, but also to be immersed in culture, history and art.  As Romeo & Juliet is a Year 8 set-text in English, it will also help a section of the attending students both academically and culturally. Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays.
