Good morning to all our Parents and supporters of BSB sports!
We are developing an exciting opportunity for our secondary students here in the form of The British School of Beijing Golf Team.
We are inviting expressions of interest from all students from Year 6 through to Year 13 who would be interested in developing their game and being taught more about the rules and etiquette both on and off the course.
The final format has yet to be finalized but will involve a practice session at a local golf club/range on a Wednesday afternoon after school for 2-3 hours, followed by a full round of golf either on a Saturday or Sunday using different formats to get used to competitive play. (Pollution and weather permitting)
We hope to develop a team which can compete with other schools in the Beijing International Schools Golf League and also send a team to compete in the prestigious ACAMIS tournament in southern China (2016).
We are currently searching for practice and playing venues in the local area and would love to speak to any parents or supporters who feel that their club may like to host a developing team or support us in some way.
There are some requirements for this squad which you will need to consider before allowing your children to apply.
1. EQUIPMENT: The Student will need to have their own set of golf clubs and shoes.
2. EXPERIENCE: This is not a beginner’s activity, the students need to already be playing regularly and have the desire to develop their skills further to take with them to competitions.
3. COST: Golf is not cheap in China, There will be some costs associated with taking up this activity, green fees etc. which will depend on the final venue arrangements.
4. Commitment: We have some very experienced, excellent staff here who are willing to help develop and nurture your child’s talent, so please ensure that everyone at home is aware of the weekend commitments and is ready to accept the challenge!
The golf program will likely start after Chinese New Year in the classroom with some theory and rules discussions in the classroom and as the Beijing weather warms up we will head outside and get started with the practical course management aspect.
Please feel free to contact me directly with any thoughts or questions you may have about the program or, if your child may be interested in joining the team.
