The British School of Beijing is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students and we are now pleased to introduce a new, free reading service providing digital books through OverDrive.
The OverDrive collection is an extension of BSB’s physical library, only it is online with 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks. It is convenient for students to check out titles at home, on the weekends or during school breaks with no worry about misplacing a book – these digital titles automatically return at the end of the lending period!
To use OverDrive, students browse our secure custom website, borrow through their own personal login, and enjoy anytime, anywhere, with access on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android™ phones and tablets.
Whether a student’s interest lies in study guides, classics for required reading, or the latest popular juvenile or young adult fiction, they can find it all in the digital collection through OverDrive at http://bsbs.lib.overdrive.com or, it can be accessed by downloading the Overdrive app.
Our new ebook library can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Struggling or reluctant readers, learning-challenged, second language learners, and gifted readers can all benefit from this service. It also helps busy kids find time to read.
Our website currently has 110 titles - fiction, non-fiction, text and audiobooks. These titles were chosen through collaboration with teachers and students to create a collection that supports our curriculum and also allows for reading for pleasure. For now the new service is being offered to students from year 3 upwards, but may eventually be offered to younger students. Pupils should all have received their own personal logins and should be able to access our ebook facility now.
We will be using the upcoming months to closely monitor the new system, to see how the students use the ebooks, see what’s popular and what’s not and eventually develop and expand our collection in the future.
If you have any questions or would like to give some feedback, please contact Rachel Harrison, Secondary Librarian at Rachel.firstname.lastname@example.org
Hope you enjoy our new system!
