BSB students gain Top IGCSE Grades again in 2019

Following the publication of our excellent IB Diploma results it is time to congratulate our Year 11 students on their recent IGCSE results; our high achieving students once again produced grades that would not only rival attainment in a similar school but would surpass.

Internationally-respected, the IGCSE examinations are the most academically challenging courses currently on offer to 14-16 year old students worldwide. The full two-year programme features a combination of coursework and written examinations that fully test our students’ abilities. Students will generally a complete a wide range of courses. Upon passing these courses they are awarded qualifications in a full range of core subjects including Languages, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Arts and Design and Mathematics.

Top universities around the world look to these qualifications as an extra benchmark of performance when considering applications. They are also regarded as the perfect foundation for the IB Diploma.

2019 BSB IGCSE examinations in numbers

427 examination entries were made, of these:

  • 45.9% of all grades awarded were A*- A, again significantly above the UK average of 20%.
  • 87.4% of grades were in the A* - C range.
  • 65.8% of grades awarded were in the A* - B range, demonstrating a real depth of high performance across all subjects.
  • 92.6% of our students achieved the benchmark figure of 5 or more A* - C, this compares with 67% in the UK.

The results above show a rise in all key indicators for the third successive year.

There were many standout performances by our students, most notably:

In most schools if you get 2 or 3 students achieving 8 or more A*/A grades it tends to be a cause for celebration. This year at BSB, we have 10 students achieving this landmark (25% of the cohort) which is absolutely outstanding! (see above photo)

Although not quite reaching the giddying heights of the above students, a substantial number of students achieved another great bench mark which was 4 or more A*/A grades, again representing 25% of the cohort. Well done!

We are very proud of all our student achievements, to give full credit we would have to list the whole year group. Our students’ success reflects their commitment to their studies; the high levels of support provided by parents and the personalised care and help by our teachers, along with the highest standards in teaching and learning delivered here at BSB.

I have to admit I am already looking forward to a fantastic set of IBDP examination results in two years’ time from the above students, as the vast majority of them have elected to continue their studies at BSB.
