IB Student of the Month - March 2021

Each month, one student from both Year 12 and Year 13 are selected from IBDP subject groups based on them displaying traits from the IB Learner Profile. The IB Learner Profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities.  The winners each month receive the accolade of winning, a 100RMB gift card and their photos on display in the library for all of the school community to see.

March Winners in Group 6 – The Arts and Electives

For the IB Learning Profile Trait ‘THINKER’, the Year 12 Student of the Month is Nicolas Pfitzinger.

Computer Science Teacher Myran Teasdale said “Nicolas demonstrates the high standards of expectations within his Computer Science lessons. He consistently performs exceptionally well in all assessments and is brilliant at linking theory to practice as shown by his keen curiosity and ability to think algorithmically by decomposing and solving complex real-world problems. He does so by using only his acute creativeness and a programming language to develop intricate algorithmic solutions to defined problems and it is apparent that in every lesson he will go above and beyond to complete the tasks at hand. Even if he does not pursue Computer Science at a higher level, the skills he so clearly demonstrates in his lessons will surely help him go far in his educational career whatever his direction. Excellent work!

For the IB Learner Profile Trait ‘CARING’, the Year 13 Student of the Month for March is Tyler Adams Brown.

Director of Performing Arts Ms. Haley Clark said “What strikes me the most is how Tyler interacts with others. He displays a genuine interest in staff and their lives and stories, which stands out from the regular polite small talk. Around the school, he always notices the younger students and often points out that they should be given credit for doing well or tidying up. And with his classmates, he is supportive and proud of their successes both in and out of the classroom. During the musical performances, I enjoyed watching Tyler watches his classmates on stage – he loved every minute and cheered and clapped for them all. He always questions when he feels something is not fair for others and wants a reason or, if possible, a solution. Tyler displays caring daily with all members of the BSB community.
