Daniel Raab

Oxford Brookes University

BSB 2020 Graduate Daniel has studied at BSB for 13 years since Year 1. He will be studying Business and Management at Oxford Brookes University.  He also received offers from the University of Westminster, University of Surrey, Kingston University London etc.

1. Please tell us your plans after graduating from BSB

I  will be studying at Business and Management at Oxford Brookes University in the UK.

2. Please tell us the names of any school events you’ve participated in.

I participated in volleyball and badminton in 2017 as well as BRITMUN in 2019.

3.Please describe any charity work that you have participated in? What did you learn from the experience?

I managed the BSB Secondary Snack Shack for all of Year 12. We raised money for charities such as Migrant Children’s Foundation (MCF) as well as donating money to charities in Tanzania and Myanmar. I understood the importance of giving and helping those in need and we should encourage younger students to volunteer at more charities.

4.Which one is your favourite school trip/residential. What do you like about the trip?

The  Year 13 Switzerland trip. It was very different from previous residentials, as we were provided with the opportunity to decide and plan every single activity, accommodation and event we would come across. Giving us the opportunity to mature as individuals and gain experience/skills in the real world.

5.Please describe 2 of your best memories of your time at BSB.

Residentials and graduation. Spending quality time with friends and having a good time is a nice break from the classroom environment and the stress that comes along with it.

6.What was your favourite IB subject?

Economics – I learnt a vast amount of economic concepts/theories, which I could then apply to the BSB snack shack, future university studies and general interactions. It allowed me to discover my passion for business economics and has aided my university degree choice.

7.Who is your favourite teacher?

This is very difficult, but I would have to say Mr. Andrew Brigstock – He’s a very hard working and dedicated teacher. All of his students believe he puts a lot of time and effort into planning his lessons and providing work, leaving us well prepared for tests and exams.

8.How has studying at BSB helped you achieve academic success/ university acceptance/ personal development?

For the most part, BSB has done its part to hire good or adequate teachers to help us prepare for exams and university. I believe Mr Chesher did a great job this year with university applications. The opportunities and extracurriculars BSB provides has allowed me to learn and create a fair amount of applicable skills and experiences.

9.What do you think is special about BSB?

There is a small and caring community here at BSB. It has good facilities, good teachers and provides students with a quality education. I believe it stands out from other international schools in Beijing.

10.What advice do you have for other students at school?

Work as hard as you can, because in the future it will pay off. Believe in yourself and don’t give up. High school is a place to have fun but more importantly learn – as your actions decide the path of your future.
