As part of our World Children’s Day celebrations, the children discussed the rights of every child to have a safe home to live in. They considered the inequality of living conditions for children, even within our local community here in Jakarta. This led them to a shelter building activity where they had to work as teams, using pieces of old wood and fabric and cardboard, to create a dry and safe shelter. While this activity was a lot of fun, the children importantly realised that it wouldn’t be very comfortable for people to actually live in these makeshift shelters and this highlighted the hardship that some children face in their early lives. Good fun but also impactful learning about The Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
