This term at The International School of Moscow, we enjoyed an eventful scientific programme as part of British Science Week. Students explored scientific principles away from the set curriculum and looked deep into aspects of the physical world around them.

The idea behind our Science Week was to raise awareness, spark enthusiasm and celebrate science, engineering and technology with our pupils from all campuses and key stages of education.

In Secondary School, each lesson of the week explored a particular area of science, with activities ranging from taking an in-depth look at the human heart to learning the fundamentals of electronic circuitry and measuring the energy content of different foods. The week culminated in a series of science shows for each year group, where our science team held the stage with an array of impressive and thought-provoking experimental demonstrations.

During Science Week, we also announced this year’s Science Competition: Plastic Fantastic. The competition focused on innovative approaches to solving the world’s plastic problem. Our pupils used both their creativity and scientific knowledge to tackle one of the most pressing issues in modern society.

The competition saw entries from all year groups, with ideas such as plastic-collecting robotic octopus in the Pacific Ocean, eco-bricks for environmentally-friendly construction, and many other innovative initiatives for single-use plastics reduction.

Congratulations to Maria, Anastasia, Janie and Arina for their winning entry!
