BSB BBC School Report Practice News Day

12 12월 2014

Read about the BBC School Report team's first practice day of the 2014/15 academic year - an unparalleled success!

Today on the 11th of December, the BBC School Report team at BSB experienced their first Practice News Day where they were asked to assemble a completed news segment with several stories involving the recent school activities and events. Under stress and time limits, all participants including teachers, anchors, editors and cameramen had to attempt their best at producing the school report as comprehensive as possible. With stories ranging from the brilliant Grease school production to the newly introduced Kung Fu ASA, the practice News Day was a relatively great success. Students very much enjoyed and found the experiences memorable and useful for the upcoming formal News Day in March 2015.

Here is what some of the pupils taking part had to say about the day:

“This is the second year we are doing it and I think we have improved since last year, so it has gone smoother.    But there is still some improvement needed in some aspects.” – Emma, Year 10

“ I think BBC School Report is very innovative and unprecedented, also extremely tough to work on. I’m looking forward to the real news day challenge!” -Emily, Year 11 (blogger)

“News day is a hurricane of events, but after a hurricane there is a rainbow!” –Sunny and Helen, Year 10 (editors)

“BBC School Report practice news day is a very useful experience before the actual day and for some individuals it is the first step into the world of journalism”– Tania, Year 10 (reporter)

“I think it’s really cool, fun, but at the same time you have to do a lot of hard work”– Arpit, Year 9, (reporter)

The teams began with a very short planning session before they hit the bricks and grabbed the cameras. Like with all news sessions there were some hiccups along the way But we overcame all that stood before us and accomplished our goals.

All in all it was a fantastic day.

A special acknowledgment must be made for the amazing efforts of the executive producer Emma and the Editor and Chief Helen. Both young ladies kept the day and stories alive. Without their tireless work and smiles the day’s stories would not have been completed in our allotted timetable.

Each member of every individual team worked extremely hard and managed to accomplish all of the goals that they set their sights on. It was truly a sight to behold.

We hope everyone has a fantastic holiday break and keeps they eyes out for stories.
