The children started the week joining in with number songs such as 5 Little Ducks and we practiced our counting using sorting toys. In Pre-Nursery we are learning to say number names in order and count slowly, pointing to one object or picture at a time. We even began to represent numbers on our fingers – amazing work for such young children! In our workshops, the children learnt to take turns playing a dice game – they rolled the dice and found the matching number track, trying to name the number and then whizzing a car around it, this was a very popular game!
Later in the week, we moved onto shapes. In Starfish Class, the children really enjoyed exploring the Early Years Building and hunting for different shapes in the environment. We also created fantastic pictures, carefully drawing around shapes which is quite a tricky task and needed a lot of concentration.
We also took our maths learning outside where we practiced drawing large shapes with chalk, counting ducks in the water tray and also counting how many jumps we could do in the hoops. A very busy week with a lot of learning!
