Every year at MIT, a ‘Parking Day’ Competition is set where students are encouraged to take a Parking Spot and transform it into a space that benefits and improves the environment that it is found in. Here at BSB Sanlitun, we safely marked out a 4.8x2.4m Parking Space in our playground and for the last 2 weeks, classes from Reception to Year 6 have taken on the challenge of making it into a better space.
Reception kicked it all off by creating a stage where children from across the school could strut their stuff and perform in front of their adoring fans. In Key Stage 1 Reading Corners popped up from nowhere as well as Café Role Plays. In Key Stage 2, mindfulness was taking in one class and bike washing being hosted by another.
It’s been great to see the creative ideas that children were able to come up with and see just how much imagination can transform an unused space! We’re excited to send our top entries off to MIT and we’re looking forward to hearing their feedback. What a super challenge it has been!
