Engineers in the making!

As part of our Active Planet Topic the children have been learning about natural disasters. This week the children learnt about how earthquakes occur as well as thinking about and looking at the devastating effects.

The children were set a challenge to design an earthquake-proof building, collaborating within groups to think about the height of the building as well as their structure. The children then became engineers for an afternoon and set to work designing a structure to withstand the force of an earthquake, using only marshmallows and wooden sticks! The children had great fun testing their designs by re-enacting the force of an earthquake on their structures.
