Evaluating our Goals

‘Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.’

Hal Borland

Wishing each and every one of you a happy and healthy 2019!  As we start our next term and a new year, it is natural for new year’s resolutions to be at the forefront of our minds.  Mr. Pearce shared his resolutions with the school in our first assembly and it was thought-provoking for all because he linked each of his with our Goal Squad values.  For me, this reminded me not just of what our students and school community are looking to in the coming year, but also of what they have already achieved.

The popular quote in January of, ‘New year, new you,’ is a reminder that we can all make fresh starts and re-evaluate our goals, but let’s also celebrate the new year with the acknowledgement of what we have achieved and will strive to build upon.

In the 3 days we have been back at school, children have continued to make our Goal Squad proud.  They have been respectful – they have held doors, wished each other ‘Happy New Year’ and listened to each other talk about their holidays.  They have a renewed sense of curiosity and are excellent at co-operation – after spending some time in Rabbits class yesterday, I was so impressed with the questions they were asking each other about dinosaurs and the way they created their own story through playing together.  Welcoming new students, it has been wonderful to see the way they have been adaptable to their new environment, been resilient in approaching new things, and how our existing pupils have communicated  so well with them and been so thoughtful in making them feel part of our school.  I know Dr. Moral  would be so proud of how they are continuing to make the right choices for themselves and others.

So, here’s to a fantastic 2019 – a year of new and exciting experiences, but also a continuation and reflection of all that we have already achieved!
