Parent Update - 13 November 2015

  • CPD day - 13 Nov

Dear Parents,

This week’s Parent Update will be a short one whilst I am with Mr. Cooklin and senior management from our other China schools attending meetings in Guangzhou. Today is also a CPD Day for all the teachers at our China schools and our NAIS teachers will make use of this day by collaborating, sharing and learning from other teachers.

You should all have scheduled some time to meet your Primary class teachers. If not, please contact your class teacher by email. Aston Wilson, our uniform supplier will also be at school in case you need to buy any extra uniform.


Head of Modern Foreign Languages, Mr. A. Lopes will be taking our Year 8s to the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong Institute of Languages for a cultural introduction to the different cuisines in Spain. They will also learn how to cook different Spanish dishes. We can’t wait to try!

They cost HK$147 / HK$157 depending on size. Also please remember that all pupils (including Secondary students) will finish school at 2.45pm on that day.


We are delighted to have the pleasure of having Mr. Ben Walden come to the school on Thursday 10 December for a Parent Workshop. His workshop will focus on how parents can help students develop skills or talents which are just as important as academic success known as the “Four Elements of Education.”

Mr. Walden, an actor and presenter who has played a number of leading roles on television and theatre productions, has received major acclaim around the world for his work in education in particular on leadership and developing natural strengths.

The parent workshop is definitely not-to-be-missed! Please see the attached flyer and RSVP: ricky.auyeung@nais.hk before 3 December to reserve your seat. He will be at school on 9 December leading several workshops with our Secondary students too.

BOX OF HOPE – Thank you!

We collected a staggering 375 boxes of hope which were picked up on Wednesday and sent to underprivileged children in Hong Kong and Asia. We want to thank our pupils and parents for making and bringing in your beautiful boxes!


A very informative parent workshop was led by Head of Curriculum, Miss Katie Byrne and Phonics Champions Miss J. Rowland and Mr. T. Boast on how to support your child at home with reading, writing and spelling. Please check out their presentation here.

COBIS GAMES 2016 UPDATE – Primary Games (Kazakhstan), 26 – 29 May 2016

Head of PE, Mr. Pate said, “The trials for COBIS are going well.  All pupils should have had the opportunity to time trial for swimming events.  Pupils will have the opportunity to trial out for football next week and athletics the following week.” The trials will take place at lunch time – for Years 5/6 on Thursday.

JOIN OUR MO-VEMBER TEAM – Grow a bushy moustache in November and raise funds for men’s health issues

Mo-vember promotes and raises funds for men’s health issues such as prostate and testicular cancer. Led by Mr. Deri Reid, there is a fine group of Mo-bros teachers walking around the school. Check out their scary moustaches here and we’ve still got until end of November! Please support them for this excellent cause!

RESIDENTIAL TRIP FOR SECONDARY – to Vietnam, 7 – 11 March 2016

After much consideration, our Senior Leadership Team has decided to send our Secondary students to a residential trip in Vietnam which will be more beneficial than sending a few select students to the COBIS Secondary Games. There will be a number of sports activities on this residential trip so our young athletes won’t miss out! Our students will go to Hanoi and Da Nang from 7 – 11 March 2016 where they will continue to learn how to collaborate in teams and build on their leadership skills. More details will be sent later.


NORD ANGLIA ASIA GAMES, 2 – 4 March 2016

We’re delighted to host the Nord Anglia Asia Games where we will be inviting a number of our other schools to send their teams to Hong Kong to compete in athletics, swimming and football. More details will be sent later.


Whilst it’s early days now, just to let you know that our International Day will be on 15 April next year. After the successful event last year, we will be holding it again next year – led by Ms. Mariam Khalik. So if you’re making a trip to your home country over Christmas, now is the time to stock up with goodies for International Day!
