A Year to be Proud of

This is certainly a year that none of us will ever forget - But I believe we are better for going through it together at NAIS Manila. The 2020/21 Academic Year was the year that our Virtual School Experience became the ‘new normal’.

With the holidays now upon us, our community will have the chance to take the foot off  the gas, pause and reflect on an unprecedented year in which we have achieved so much. I am sure that when you look back, you will be very proud of what you have achieved!

Does Virtual Schooling Work?

This is a question that I have been asked many times throughout the past year. The short answer, that we all now know, is YES! Whilst I take great pride in talking people through what we have achieved at NAIS Manila, don’t just take my word for this, the results speak for themselves. Our outstanding End of Year Assessments and Secondary Exam Results speak volumes for the students, parents and the staff who have persisted with VSE and are in a much better position academically because of this.

Via our independently marked Primary GL Assessments in English, Maths, and Science, results show our students in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have continued to outperform schools in the same age groups in the UK. It is something I highlighted in our end of year celebrations but is worth reinforcing once again. This is not a one-off set of results; the students have continued to outperform their age groups in the UK since I arrived here. This goes to show the development of the school, with a drive to constantly improve, year on year.

Primary School delivers impressive End of Year Assessment Results

Our second cohort of IGCSE students predicted grades have surpassed the grades achieved last year and are headlined by a remarkable 98% A*-C pass rate, with many of the students having been at NAIS Manila for the entirety of their educational journey!

This year, our first cohort to sit their AS Levels have been predicted a 100% A*-C pass rate. We are incredibly proud of these children! Results speak louder than words and as we know all schools are judged on results. There is a very bright future in store for these children as they start to make university choices and one thing is for sure, with results like these, they certainly will not be short of offers!

Our personal approach at NAIS Manila, along with high quality teaching and strong relationships with parents has meant that the impact of lockdown on our students has been considerably softened. This year, more so than ever before, we have seen the benefit of being part of the NAIS Manila community!

The above results are excellent and are only possible when everyone pulls together. From the outset we have been transparent that our priority this year has been the wellbeing of children. I have seen the many hours of work that teachers and parents have put in ‘behind the scenes’ and whilst these may not make the headlines – it has been a vital part of what we have achieved this year. Not all outcomes are easily quantifiable, the determination, resilience, empathy, gratitude and drive that NAIS Manila children have shown this year will benefit them far beyond their school life!

Final Thanks

Our teachers have constantly gone above and beyond to ensure that children and families have the support that they need, at the times when they need it, to ensure that personal and academic outcomes are at the highest possible level. I can’t thank our staff enough for their effort over the past year. Enjoy your well-deserved break!

Parents have become our partners in Virtual Schooling, gaining a deeper insight into teaching and learning than ever before and have a newfound respect for the work that teachers do. I know first-hand the amount of blood, sweat and tears that have been shed over the past year by parents. I once again want to pass on my thanks for everything that you have done for your children, I hope that when you reflect you do so with a huge deal of pride. You have achieved more than any group of parents has before – I take my hat off to you!

I hope you all have a safe, enjoyable and relaxing summer break and I look forward to seeing you all again, in August.

Best wishes,
