A big welcome from the Primary School!
As our busy term continues, many of our primary classes have been embarking on some exciting educational visits in and around Singapore. A short summary of what they have been up to:
All children in Nursery went to the Water Park at Gardens by the Bay. It was a lovely way for all children and parents to get to know each other a little better. After a picnic, the children had a great time splashing in the water with their friends and parents. A great day was had by all and our nursery children are already looking forward to their next outing!
Year 2’s work on healthy eating linked to their visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens where they saw how our food grows and had a healthy picnic. The children and staff reported a lovely day and all came back smiling.
Year 3 visited the Science Centre in Jurong to kick start their new PBL project which is all about light. They took part in a fascinating workshop where they learnt about angles of reflection and how light travels. They also discovered how to mix colours together using light, and found out that we could make all the colours of the rainbow! The children had a fantastic time and have now been putting what they learnt into practice back in the classroom.
Year 4 had an exciting trip to Palau Ubin where they investigated the mangroves, forest, beach and village, whilst investing a 'mystery' animal’s habitat which they were told had escaped from the science centre. It was a great day and even the rain didn’t dampen their enthusiasm.
Reception and Y1 have some exciting ideas up their sleeves for their trips and are already well into the planning process. More information to follow…
Just a couple of reminders about procedures in place in the primary school:
No Hat No Play
At DCIS we do want to ensure that all students are safe at school. For this reason we do have a ‘No Hat, No Play’ policy. This means that if your child comes to school without their DCIS hat they will be asked to sit in a shaded area for the duration of break time, where they will be safely out of the sun. We do hope you will show us your support with this by sending your child to school with a named school hat.
As in any school we are accumulating a lot of lost property! This is stored in red crates in the cafeteria area and in the primary block, next to the stair well. On the last Friday of each month from 1.30pm – 4.00pm, lost property is put out in the canteen and students are taken, with their class, to retrieve items that belong to them. Parents are invited to pop in at this time if they wish to look for missing items. Due to the accumulation of lost property, unnamed items will be disposed of at the each month. Due to the unhygienic nature of lunch boxes, water bottles and swimming towels in the Singapore heat, these items will be disposed of each Monday morning. Please do ensure that all property is named – named property usually does get back to the rightful owner.
We have seen some lovely assemblies this term and are looking forward to a few more before the end of term. Please do come along and support your children on the following dates:
- March 11, 2016 - 4JC (9.55am) and Rec AV / Rec SS (9.00am)
- March 23, 2016 – 2SC 2RE 2MK + 2JC (9.00am)
Easter is fast approaching and we are looking forward to a show of Easter bonnets on the last day for term which is Wednesday 23rd March. This year we are inviting Nursery, Reception, Y1 and Y2 to design a festive bonnet at home which the children will wear to assembly. We hope you will support your children with this lovely activity!
As ever, do contact me if you have any questions - I am always very happy to help.
Wishing you all a relaxing weekend.
