  • Juilliard Nord-Anglia Performing Arts Programme Update

The Juilliard Nord-Anglia Performing Arts Programme continues from a successful first year of implementation and has a lot to look forward to for 2016-2017.

Our Head of Music and SEA Regional Lead, Patrick Dwyer, has recently returned from the Juilliard School in New York to share a revised approach to the programme. Not only will the programme continue to develop a deep understanding and engagement with music, students will now be assessed in three essential areas of their cognitive development through music. These are:

  1. Ways of Doing
  2. Ways of Thinking
  3. Ways of Being

Each strand combines to provide a more comprehensive overview of the learner’s profile. For example, ‘Ways of Thinking’ class activities encourage the creative, curious and reflective skills to be developed. Likewise, ‘Ways of Being’ activities ensure that lessons encourage collaboration, expression and cultural awareness.

There will be also plenty of opportunities outside the classroom for ‘Ways of Doing’ this year. We can look forward to the Christmas concert this term that will showcase our rock bands, orchestra, choir and drama. Then in term two, our successful ‘Celebration of the Arts’ will provide further opportunities for public performances. In term three, individual soloists will perform on stages throughout the school in our very own ‘DCIS Promenade’.

Of course, keep an eye out for our regular lunchtime music performances that will showcase our up-and-coming talent!
