Both DCIS teams started off showcasing their winning ways with some impressive goals from Lucas, Archer, Bowen, Cameron and Thomas. Together, our DCIS Lions managed to get through their group stage and reached the quarter finals where the tournament and atmosphere started to become that little more intense.
Quarter Finals
On pitch 1, DCIS Lions Blues played SJII where the game was close and the Lions managed to clinch a late goal winner and move on to the next stage of the tournament. On Pitch 3, DCIS Lions where in a game full of goals as they too secured themselves for the semi-finals with a 3-2 win over Gems.
Semi Finals - A nightmare draw but someone has to win...
Dover Lions head to head! The semi-finals were drawn and both teams unfortunately had to meet each other in order to reach to the Finals. Only one team however could go through.
The atmosphere was booming from the parents and both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Baines shared their competitive streaks by wanting their individual teams to come out on top!
The match was very tense as both teams played with a compact defense with not many chances to score. The referees whistle was eventual blown with a 0 - 0 result leading to a penalty shootout!
Archer stepped up for the ‘Blue Lions’ and with confidence and coolness placed the ball in the back of net. It was now time for the ‘Orange Lions’ to follow suit. With Shaurya performing a ‘Bruce Grobelar’ deterrent on his goal line this somewhat distracted his opponent as he managed to pull off a great save.
Dover Orange Lions were through and obviously ecstatic!
Finals
DCSG Vs DCIS Orange Lions.
The Finals had arrived and the boys were excited as well as slightly nervous, so it was time for a quick huddle and team talk by Mr. Johnson to get them fired up!
The Lions applied pressure from the start of the match and kept pressing the DCSG defense with Lucas, reacting quickly to an untidy pass scoring a fast goal to give the Lions the 1-0 lead.
With 5 minutes still to go the Lions began to tire and DCSG scored from a quick goal kick. The parents showed great support by getting behind the team but there was just not enough time to finish the match off with a bang and the score finished 1 - 1 with 5 penalties each to be taken.
Final result penalties – DCSG 5 - DCIS 4
Both teams did their school proud and were very unfortunate to miss out on Gold. Well done Dover Court Lions – until next time.
