Under 11 Lions 'A' Team Win Gold!

The ACSIS Football Finals took place this weekend and the U11 A Dover Lions were keen and ready for the challenge.

It was an early kick off at DCSG this weekend and the Dover Lions, had not just turned up to make the numbers.

Before the first pool of matches had begun an in-depth team talk by Mr. Johnson got underway. Tactics were discussed and the team were ready for their first match against the hosts DCSG.

The first match was intense and nervy but DCIS applied pressure from the start firing with numerous shots at a fabulous DCSG Goalkeeper. Continuous pressure added by the Lions, the DCSG defence just couldn’t keep up with the pace. A great strike from Teun and Daniel was enough to get us through to the next round. DCIS 2-0 DCSG.

Next game, was against SAIS and this was a gritty and challenging game. A magical goal from Charlie from his own half and a back heel goal from Daniel saw the game finish 2-0. DCIS 2-0 SAIS.

It was now DCIS's turn to face the most dangerous team in the division and that was Nexus College. A team who had beaten the Lions previously during weekday friendlies. However, this wasn’t a friendly and the Dover Lions were pumped up for this game. The team were given strict instructions for this match and Kaelen in particular did a marvellous job, man marking their star player throughout the game. The game ended 0-0 but Dover Court Lions went through on goal difference.

With Nexus out of the competition, it was time for the Finals. DCIS v SJI, another really exciting game. DCIS Lions started fast and a quick goal from Teun calmed the teams nerves. However, it wasn’t over and with two minutes to go SJI pulled one back. The game finished 0-0 and that meant only one thing. Penalties.

This was a nerve wrecking moment. A wonderful  save from Billy kept DCIS in the shootout and SJI were unfortunately out. DCIS win 3-2 on penalties and are crowned Champions.

Well done to the team for battling for one another, showing great team work and wonderful sportsmanship throughout the tournament and a huge thank you to all the parents for their marvellous support.

We are the champions!!!
