Brilliant Books at TX

01 October 2015

This week we welcomed "The 2 Steves", Mr Steve Barlow and Mr Steve Skidmore, from England to Tu Xuong Campus.

To kick off the the event, "Brilliant Books" all children and staff chose a favourite book character and dressed in costume for the day on Monday.  We began the day sharing the amazing efforts within each year group in a special Brilliant Books Parade.

Our judges Ms Heather, Ms Jules and Mr Steve were sat carefully observing and inspecting the imagination, effort and quality of each costume that passed the judges area.  It was an extremely difficult decision for the three expert judges to make however, in time they finally came to agree on the winners of the Character Parade.

The winners of this year's Brilliant Books Character Parade were;

  • F3 - Dawick dressed as a Pharaoh

  • Y1 - Anakah dressed as

  • Y2 - Advait dressed as

  • Y3 - Bella dressed as Princess

  • Y4 - Mei dressed as a rabbit from Alice in wonderland

  • Y5 - Yun Seo dressed as a Minion

  • Y6 - Khoa dressed as Sherlock Holmes

Congratulations to our seven winners this year!  As their prize each winner chose a new book from the Fahasa's Book Fair in the library.  The prizes and certificates will be presented to the children in Friday's whole school assembly.

Following the Character Parade and a Meet and Greet with parents, our Brilliant Book event got off to a flying start with "The 2 Steves" running story sessions and workshops with our Early Years classes through to our Mile Post Three classes.  The "2 Steves" ended each day with signing their books that the children had bought and signing the special event book marks.

Their captivating workshops helped to increase our children's and our teachers' love for reading and writing stories.  The experience has been a valuable one for all involved and again has highlighted the importance of reading; children reading aloud to adults, adults reading allowed to children and reading independently.

Here is a wonderful example of two of our Year 6 boys enjoying 'Space Rescue' by Steve Skidmore and Steve Barlow.

We would like to thank those parents who were able to join us for our Meet and Greet session with "The 2 Steves" and our Character Parade on Monday morning.
