New Teachers at AP1 - This week meet......

01 October 2015

Once again we get to meet some of our fantastic new staff here at AP1.

Teachers here at AP1 work very hard to give the children the best learning experiences they can. Arriving in a new country can be difficult for people, whatever your position but it is encouraging always, to see our teachers settling in so well. Many say it's because teaching the children helps! No matter how you might be missing your family back home, coming to work and spending time with the children is a cure for all!! What wonderful children we have... and teachers!

How long have you worked at the school?

7 weeks.

What have you enjoyed so far at BIS?

I really enjoyed Moon Festival. The children looked amazing in their traditional dress and seeing the hall all decorated really was a WOW. The dragon dance got everyone in the mood for a celebration and there was a real buzz around the campus. Eating moon cake was a first and really enjoyed.

If you had to describe BIS in 3 words what would they be?

Friendly, Amazing, Outstanding.

Why do love/like working at the school?

Being based in the EYFS department has been fantastic. Meeting the children and parents has been a privilege. The behaviour of all children has been amazing to watch especially coming in and out of assemblies and around lunchtime.  The staff are great and full of excellent ideas and teaching techniques. Mr Ying in resources has been great at finding everything I need. I love the fact that the aide-mémoire is embedding in the daily practice of the school.

How would you describe life in Vietnam to friends back home?

Busy! There is so much to see, do and discover. There are so many different restaurants you can eat out every night. Seeing the floods in the rainy season were totally unexpected especially bikes being pushed through the water. Bikes have to be mentioned.  Before I came I expected to see lots of bikes, but I did not expect to see 4 family members all on 1 bike including a mum carrying a baby. You never quite know what you are going to see next from water buffalo on the side of the road to geckos in your apartment.  Life is full of surprises, however everyone even strangers are so friendly that you never feel alone.

How long have you worked at the school?

I have worked at BIS for just over one month now, but I have lived in Ho Chi Minh City for just over a year. Prior to working at BIS, I worked at BVIS.

What has been  your favourite time of the year at BIS so far?

My favourite time of the year so far has been The Moon Festival celebrations. I liked seeing everyone in their colourful Ao Dai’s, the dragon dance and The Moon Festival assembly.

If you had to describe BIS in 3 words what would they be?

Fun, exciting and big.

Why do love/like working at the school?

It's great seeing students with limitless potential reaching for and achieving their goals.

How would you describe life in Vietnam to friends back home?

It is a very busy city, with lots to do. It can get a bit scary sometimes, but the people here are very friendly. Oh, and it’s hot! Very hot!!
