SISAC City Basketball Championships

On Wednesday this week our Year 5 and 6 basketballers travelled to South Saigon International School to take part in Saigon City Basketball Championships.

Our girls were placed in a group including the South Saigon International and the Australian International Schools.

Playing longer games on much bigger courts was a tiring but great experience for the girls. They started the tournament excellently with a 16-4 victory over AIS.

Next up was SSIS and as they were playing on there home court it seemed half of the primary school had turned out to watch and cheer. It made for a great atmosphere. It was a very tight first half and it took 7 minutes for either team to score! SSIS did though and quickly raced into a 6 point lead at half time. The second half began with a great rally from TX. Sooa Kim was playing excellently defensively and stole the ball a number of times, while Kelly Tran and Susu Le scored the baskets to level the game. Unfortunately this effort took a lot out of the game and SSIS scored 3 quick baskets in the last 3 minutes. Amiri Nemoto added a late consolation for TX, but it was too late to save the game.

That result meant TX finished 2nd in their group and would go on to meet AP1 in the next round. The girls again started well taking an early 6-2 lead. By this point some of the players had played well over 80 mins of basketball and were visibly tired. The tired legs allowed AP1 to take control of the game and ultimately win 16-6.

A brilliant effort from the girls. Only 2 of the 10 who played had experienced a full sized court and tall 10ft baskets before, so to achieve 4th place was an excellent effort. Well Done!

The boys turn to play the city championships comes up in 2 weeks on December 9th at ISHCMC. Please come along to support.

International Week Rugby Lessons.

Last week in PE, to go with the international celebrations, all students were taught the game of rugby. A game played by a lot of countries around the world but few in Asia. Pupils were taught to tackle and pass in a safe and fun way and all had a great time.
