This year's Young Musician of the Year Competition was a heated contest from the outset!
The first round of auditions saw over 80 children from both Tu Xuong and An Phu Primary play the piano, trombone, violin, cello, flute, guitar, recorder, saxophone, clarinet and sing in order to gain a spot in the semi-finals. Only 30 children went through to the next round before 12 were chosen to take part in the final.
Musicians were competing for the top trophy to name them the 2015-2016 Young Musician of the Year winner, and we heard beautiful music from Mozart, Richard Clayderman, Chopin, traditional Vietnamese folk songs and many more.
All of the performers played wonderfully and our judges, Mr Ian Alexander, Mr Fergus Walker, Mr Minh Tran and Mrs Emma Husband, had a very challenging decision to make.
However, after deliberating the judges decided on our winners: Man Nghi Trinh (first place), Chae Rim Lee (second place) and Andrew Vu (third place). This year our runners up are Brandon Pye, Moksh Jhawer, Jessie Jeong, Hieu Nguyen, Kinga Januszaniec, Ellie Kim, Khoa Tran, Anya De Chakrabarty and Theresa Lai.
Well done to all of the musicians that took part, we are all very proud of your achievements and we look forward to seeing what you can do in the future. I personally am very much looking forward to the next Young Musician of the Year Competition next year.
