Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Dear Parents,

By the time you have received this weekly update, term will be over and the holidays will be upon us.  What a term it has been! It really is a privilege to be part of such a dynamic community of learners, and I want to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers who work so hard to provide such a high quality education.  They are ably supported by the teaching assistants and all the support and office staff in the school.  I also want to thank you, the parents.  It has been so good to see a greater involvement in school life from so many parents, and as we continue to work together, we know that it will all benefit the children’s learning.  Lastly, I want to thank the children themselves.  As I visit classrooms around the school, it is wonderful to see the children engaging with all the different elements of learning, and they are always eager to show me what they have been doing or to tell me about their work.

This week at TX, it has been one of celebration.  In amongst the Christmas parties, there are a number of events that have taken place that need a special mention.

Bangkok Feeding Frenzy and the Community Football Tournament

AP1 Bangkok Feeding Frenzy Swim Meet 2015

Last Friday, 4 children from TX; Andrew, Bao Van, Quynh An and Kevin, joined the BIS Swim Squad to compete in the annual Bangkok Feeding Frenzy Swim Meet.  The competition was fierce, but all our children performed to their best and were a real credit to TX.

Community Football Tournament

On Sunday a number of TX footballers joined the Community Football Tournament which took place in An Phu. It is a fabulous opportunity for members of BIS and children from our community partners to play sport together.  You can read more in Ms Samantha’s (the AP1 Community Rep) post.

A Countdown to Christmas

Countdown to Christmas

To really get in the Christmas mood, the children in EYFS and the Milepost 1 Choir performed ‘A Countdown to Christmas’ on Wednesday morning.  We had Santa, elves, reindeer, snowmen, mince pies, presents, Christmas trees and even Brussels sprouts! The costumes, speaking, singing and dancing were all fantastic!  You can read more about the production and see more of the pictures here:

Parents’ Group Christmas Potluck Lunch

A huge thank you to all our class reps and parents for the potluck lunch they prepared on Wednesday.  Every member of staff I spoke to after the event said how much they enjoyed the food, and how impressed they were with the flower arrangement and the decoration of the Multi-purpose Room.  A special thank you to Anne Salapete for coordinating this occasion and for gathering together all the prizes for the surprise draw and to Duyen Pham for entertaining us on the piano.

Dragons’ Den

Dragons den

The dragons are a fierce bunch!  It takes a lot of courage to stand before them and make a ‘pitch’ about an entrepreneurial idea.  The children in Year 6 all did a fantastic job. They had done their research, built the models and come up with a business plan.  We even had a song about the Banana Ride! After the presentations, the children had to answer the dragons’ questions – terrifying.  Well done especially to Kelly and Susu for winning over the dragons and getting them to invest in their Triffle Ride.

Dragons’ Den

The TXhibition

The foyer has looked amazing this week!  The children have been working hard all term to produce a vast array of pieces of art work.  The TXhibition has not been a passive affair though, parents have joined their children to create even more art under the expert guidance of Ms Charlie. Well done Ms Charlie, and thank you for contributions this term.

Online Parents' Evening Signup

You should have received an email on Friday, informing you of the new way of signing up for parents' evening. If you didn't, please contact a member of staff in the office who will pass on all the relevant information.

Photos of School Events

A parent asked me today about getting copies of photos of events that happen at TX.  Many photos are on the ‘Google Drive’.  The children in Years 3 to 6 know how to access Google Drive, and when logged in, if they search for ‘BIS Events Photos’, you can find many photos of events, not only at TX, but also for the whole school.  In this case, here is a link to the ‘Brilliant Books’ photos– remember, you will need to log into Google using a bisvietnam.net account.

And Finally

Remember school reopens for the children on Monday 11th January.  Looking forward to seeing you all then.

I sincerely wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holiday and a Peaceful New Year.
