Mr Simon Higham – Weekly Update: 4th December

04 December 2015

Dear Parents

It has been a week of both indoor and outdoor learning at AP1 with children busily working hard to ensure that all of the necessary preparations for Christmas are in place, whilst also persevering in their House Teams during the six separate sports days that have now been completed. Thank you to all parents who were able to come along and cheer our students to success and a big well done to all of our participants.

Sports Days at An Phu Primary Campus

Read more about our Sports Days by accessing the following links:

Year 3 to Year 6 Sports Days (including a great video to watch).

F2 and F3 Sports Days (in case you missed the post last week).

Watch out for a Y1 and Y2 post early next week.

Term 2 Clubs

I hope that your child(ren) have enjoyed the Term 1 Extra Curricular Club programme and that they are looking forward to the new programme that is currently being finalised for Term 2. Some important dates for Term 2 Extra Curricular Clubs are below:

Monday 7th December – Term 2 Club booklet goes live. This can be accessed via the AP1 Parent Hub, parent Information page, under the clubs section of that page. If you access this before 7th December, it will be the Term 1 booklet .

Monday 14th December – CHQ goes live for sign up at 5.00pm. See the details below and in the club booklet to help.

Friday 18th December – CHQ live sign up closes at 12.00pm.

All parents will be able to sign their child(ren) up for clubs at any time during the sign up week and be assured that every child has the same chance of being accepted for their club choice options. There will be no need or advantage in rushing to sign up when the club sign up begins, as all of our selections are randomly chosen by the system.  This information, along with more details can be accessed via the clubs letter which will be emailed to you later today.

(NIA) Networkers In Action

Staying safe online is very important across all of our BIS Community and the NIAs, our Networkers in Action, have been active in promoting digital citizenship across our campus. Read more about their work in Milepost assemblies through the post by Aarush Yendamuri, Year 6 student and NIA

For more information about how you as a parent can promote effective digital citizenship and on-line safety at home, please refer to the BIS Digital Citizenship site

This term, all of our Community Clubs have really made a positive impact on our children's service learning. One of these clubs has been Community Football, with a mixture of BIS and our community partner children. Read more about how they have been getting on and developing their skills and friendship in the post by Peter Dulborough, Support Teacher and Information Literacy Leader.

A reminder that our Community Football Tournament takes place on Sunday 13th Decemeber at AP1. All support is welcome.

 And finally…………

Every Tuesday, I meet with our Student Council Executive Committee who put forward the student voice in school. I must say, that this is one of the highlights of each week for me due to the engaging conversations that we have and the pride that is instilled in me as a Headteacher, to see the true leaders of the future.

Some of the many projects that they have been working on are:

- Recycling bins for paper and plastics (watch out for the green and orange bins very soon)
- Playground equipment audit and order (more will be in place at the beginning of Term 2)
- Non Teacher's day (a gesture of 'care' across our non teaching community in school)
- Wear a Helmet campaign (look out for more stickers to drive home the message that all children must wear a helmet when they are travelling on a bike or motorcycle).

The leaders of all of our futures are here!

I would like to wish you all, a very pleasant weekend.

Simon Higham, Headteacher
