Parents Information Evening Presentation

I wanted to focus on 3 areas of school life:

Community, Communication and Collaboration

Our community continues to grow, with the children being at the heart of all we do.  We have an amazing team of teachers and teaching assistants, fantastic support staff, fabulous children and super parents.  We are a learning community, where every member values others, and recognises that, although we have achieved much, there are still areas where we can develop further. We are a caring community - we have a focus on Katy the Caring Dolphin at the moment, and we have already seen the children embracing new friendships, as well as the parents attending our welcome back breakfast.  We hope that more and more parents will become involved in the life of the school by attending events like the High Tea at Villa Royale on Monday evening.  For more  details on how to get involved please see this week's 'Parents Corner' post.  Our community goes beyond the boundaries of TX.  Being a member of the Nord Anglia Group of schools, we look forward to the opportunities that being part of a larger group will provide.  Closer to home, we are part of the BIS Group of Schools;  footballers take note. You can join other members of  our community at Saturday Football in An Phu.  For more details, see the highlighted message below.

When parents were surveyed last term, 72% said that communication between school and home is good or very good.  This is an area that we are looking into as it is something we recognise that could improve. If you are reading this, you have discovered the BIS Hub.  This is where news and upcoming events can be found - a starting point when you want information.  Please also remember to check (and follow) your child's class blog; here you will find information all about what has been going on in class. At the beginning of the year, there is a great deal of information that we need to share.  Today, you will have received messages about musical instrument lessons and the issuing of new swipe cards to our existing parents.  We appreciate your understanding about the number of messages that we are sending out at this busy time of the year.

There are 2 attachments to the 'Newsletter Email' this week that I would particularly like to draw your attention to:

1) BIS HCMC Parent Survey Letter - this is a letter from Mr Shaun Williams with more details about the survey.

2) Tu Xuong Parents' Calendar - this is a one page calendar highlighting the main events throughout this academic year.

In addition to the electronic forms of communication, we have also produced a variety of information booklets.  If you have not yet received a booklet for your child's Milepost, please contact your child's teacher.  If  you would like more information about maths or English, please ask one of our office staff and they will happily provide you with a booklet.

Our preferred way of communication is face to face.  We provide numerous opportunities across the year to find out about your child's progress, how we teach, upcoming events and much more. If you have any questions or issues, please come and speak first to the teacher or the Milepost leader, or to Ms Mary or myself.

Edwina the elephant represents learning together.  We put a great deal of emphasis on collaboration, and teach the children how to work together to achieve a common goal.  Learning together goes beyond what happens in the classroom though. Children make the greatest progress when school and home work together.  You can do this by making sure you check the BIS Hub and the class blogs regularly (or 'follow' them by email) so you are aware of what is happening in school, by making sure your child arrives in good time for school having had a healthy breakfast and a good night's sleep.  My top tip for ensuring your child's success, is to prioritise reading.  Read to your child (even in Year 6), listen to your child read and share all sorts of texts, books, comics and magazines with them.  Readers are leaders and leaders are readers!

CHQ - Club Sign Up

Club sign-up has now closed.  Next week, Ms Emma will be busy allocating clubs and will notify you of which clubs your child will be attending.  If it is a paid club, we ask that you make the  payment promptly.  Clubs begin on Monday 21st September.  If you have any questions or queries, please contact Ms Emma in the office (emmawestman@bisvietnam.com).

I hope you have a great weekend,

Ian Battersby, Head of Tu Xuong Campus
