Healthy Living Week
To live healthy lives, we need to be making healthy choices all year round; this week at TX we have been focusing on being active, and making the right choices in the different things we eat. In the morning we have seen children and parents getting involved with circuit training and swimming, and throughout the day there have been many activities taking place including zumba, a dodgeball competition and Milepost competitions in the Sports Hall. The highlight of the week came on Thursday when the children in Years F3 to 6, headed over to the field at the An Phu Campus for our annual sports day.
Thank you to all our parents who attended; it was great to see so many of you there to support your children. There were many great performances and I must say a special thank you to Mr Ali and Mr Chau for all their hard work and organisation that allowed all the children to participate in more activities than ever this year. In assembly this morning, Mr Ali presented the 1st, 2nd and 3rd ribbons for each of the activity groups, before the highly anticipated final results.
To find out the results, see some of the photos and learn more about what has been happening this week, please see the following posts:
Congratulations to everybody who took part! We can’t wait until next year’s event.
Year 2 Went to the Circus
The children in Year 2 are beginning to get really excited about their ‘Circus’ topic. Following on from the performances in the Multi-purpose Room two weeks ago, on Wednesday, they boarded a bus and visited a real ‘big top’ and enjoyed all the excitement of the ‘Greatest Show on Earth’. Managing Children’s Behaviour
As many of you know, I have three children, and there are times when I find managing their behaviour a challenge. There is no magic formula to making children behave, but there are certain strategies that can help – to me, the two key words are ‘insistency’ and ‘consistency’. Insist on the children following the rules you have agreed and consistently applying the rewards (for compliance) and consequences (for disobedience).
A number of parents asked Mr Steve about this subject at our parents’ evening last week, so he has put together a post with more information here:
EYFS and Year 1 Phonics Workshop
There was a wonderful turnout from parents at our Phonics Workshop on Wednesday. Ms Hayley, Ms Holly and Mr Andy introduced everyone to the terms and methods we use when teaching the children phonics, from listening to and recognising sounds in F2 to blending and segmenting in Year 1. After the presentation, the teachers sat at a table with parents and shared ideas about how to support your child at home.
The workshop was very well received. You can see the presentation below and you can find more resources on the class blogs.
A massive thank you to everyone who donated to the Tet collection. We distributed the items to PdV and on behalf of the TX community wished them ‘Chuc Mung Nam Moi’.
This year for the Tet celebration, TX is going to have a Tet Fair on Friday 5th February. We have built this event into the curriculum and will be just for the children in Years F3 to Year 6. During the day, there will be lots of activities, crafts and traditional games taking place in the foyer and the big playground to provide the children with an opportunity to know more about the meaning of things we normally do during Tet in Vietnam. The crafts and activities will not require tokens as this is part of our Vietnamese culture and language programme. Wearing an ao dai is optional, otherwise the children should come in their school uniform as usual.
The EYFS celebration will be similar to last year, and will take place on Thursday 4th February at 8.15am in the Foyer.
TX School Fete (Family Day)
On Saturday 5th March, 9:00am to 1:00pm the TX Parent Group are hosting a family day for all families, adults and children, at Tu Xuong.
For more details about the TX School Fete and to get the recipe for making 'galettes' (which were enjoyed by the 18 parents who visited La Crêperie last Tuesday), please click on the link:
Finally, I would like to thank Hershey in Year 6 who wrote a post for the HUB on the occasion of the 67th Republic Day which was celebrated by our Indian families on the 26th January.
Remember that I hope you have an energetic and healthy weekend,
Ian Battersby / Head of Tu Xuong Campus
