Mr Simon Higham – Weekly Update: 29/01/16

29 January 2016

Dear Parents

It has been great to return to school this week after a very busy recruitment in the UK. It was very encouraging to consistently hear that our school is very well known and respected both within our Nord Anglia family and from the candidates that I spoke at length with. We should all be very proud of what we have achieved together at BIS, HCMC and our teachers will continue to look to the future so that they can provide the best possible education for all of the children in our care.

On Saturday 16th January, Professor Guy Claxton (a world acclaimed educationalist who is currently Emeritus Professor of the Learning Sciences, University of Winchester and Visiting Professor of Education, King’s College London) worked with all of our teachers to challenge their thinking on how we can all develop the capacity and confidence for lifelong learning. This was a great experience for everyone involved and already, some of the creative ideas have begun permeating into our classrooms to further increase our children's learning experiences.

I hope that you find these suggestions helpful.

I would encourage all parents to read through the various articles in this week's newsletter and also further explore the BIS HUB. Please  do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any suggestions about how our communication with parents can be further improved. As always, your feedback would be most useful.

Year 3 Collage Artwork

Students have explored paintings, photographs, patterns and pictures. Different artists have influenced the way that people create visual images and we have focused on collages for the start of this topic. It was a thrilling day for our young athletes from AP1 that competed this week against a host of other International School here in HCMC. Read all about how the children did and enjoy a video that captures this event both below and in the post by Ms Lindsey Shuttleworth/PE Teacher

Year 2 Trip to the Circus

Our Year 2 classes joined Year 2 from TX for an exciting trip to the circus this week. The children were in awe of the acrobatics, amazing tricks and funny clowns that entertained them during the show. Read this article by Ms Estelle from TX about the amazing Circus Trip

 And finally…………

Thank you for your continued support with the flow of traffic outside AP1 and AP2.

Please can I ask you to continue to support our efforts by discussing the following points with your drivers:

  • Never stop on or near to a pedestrian crossing – in order to ensure that our families can cross the road safely, please instruct your driver to park as far away from the main gates as possible to avoid congestion. Try walking a short distance to keep cars down to a minimum.

  •  No cars should be parked for long periods of time outside of school – ask your driver to meet you at a convenient location away from the school gates and please ask them to never double park as this stops the flow of traffic at peak times.

  • Never U Turn along the stretch of road outside both AP1 and AP2 – tell your driver to drive away from school and if they have to U Turn, please do so on the wider, less congested roads. Try the route past AP1 along Nguyen Van Huong, as an alternative way to get home – it may take a few extra minutes driving but it will save the time you spend in traffic.

  • Ask your driver to show respect to our guards and follow their instructions – they are there to keep you all safe and have a difficult job when drivers ignore their instructions.

  • Explain to your driver that their actions reflect upon your family – ask them to respect all of our school community to make our school the very best that it can be.

Have a peaceful and enjoyable weekend.
