YR12 Community Projects

01 November 2016

The Year 12s have been busy researching, planning and preparing a sophisticated Awareness Campaign for a school partnered NGO as part of their CAS project. The community partner organisations include, Project Aware, Poussieres de Vie, Newborns Vietnam, Christina Noble Foundation and Endangered Asian Species Trust (EAST). Beginning this Wednesday until next Tuesday, the school will be vibrant with their campaigns funded generously by the APS PTG.

Newborns Vietnam

Newborns Vietnam aim to increase coverage for antenatal care and improved care at birth, and to address the three main causes of neonatal deaths in high mortality countries; infections, complications of prematurity and intra-partum related deaths (‘birth asphyxia’). Newborns Vietnam group’s campaign day is on Wednesday 2nd November and will include the following awareness activities:

  1. Baby food challenge by our teachers (at 1pm in the auditorium)

Poussieres de Vie

Poussières de Vie (PdV) is an independent, values-based non-profitnon-religious and non-political organization helping Vietnam’s most disadvantaged people through funding and managing a variety of projects in Ho Chi Minh City and Kon Tum province. PDV group will have their campaign day on Thursday 3rd November which will include the following activities:

  1. Candy guessing game
  2. Wheel of fortune (answering questions on what they have learnt about PDV)
  3. Selling merchandise: badges, earrings, notebooks and Thermochromic Mugs

Christina Noble Foundation

The Christina Noble Children’s Foundation is an international partnership of people dedicated to serving children in need of emergency and long-term medical care, nutritional rehabilitation, educational opportunities, vocational training and job placement, as well as children at risk of sexual and economic exploitation. CNF will have their campaign day on Friday 4th November and will have the following awareness activities:

  1. Ball games
  2. Syringe painting
  3. Sponsored Running – involving teachers
  4. Sponge throwing
  5. Candy guessing
  6. Selling merchandise – bags, wristbands and art from their visit to CNF to spend time with the children

Christina Noble Foundation

Project Aware

The Project Aware group will be focusing on raising awareness of Marine Debris, Sharks & Rays and Ecotourism. More information can be found here: http://www.projectaware.org/

The campaign day will take place on 7th November at break and lunch time and will include the following awareness activities:

  1. Throwing Trash into big nets (have to bring own plastic, certain amount of trash will lead to discount off products)
  2. Videos on LCD screens
  3. Physical activity representing struggle of aquatic animals (person wrapped in plastic will have to try to escape)
  4. Family feud at lunch time

PDV groups will be selling merchandise such as water bottles, bags and t-shirts – all profits will go towards Project Aware.

Endangered Asian Species Trust (EAST)

EAST’s aim is to protect endangered primates in Vietnam through Rehabilitation, Research, Local Empowerment and Education. Engaging communities through conservation education and awareness. More information can be found here: http://www.go-east.org/Pages/what_we_do.html

EASTs group campaign day is on Tuesday 8th November and the following activities will take place:

  1. Selling merchandise – gibbon/loris toy, wristbands, bags and notebooks.

The groups have worked hard researching how best to raise awareness for their organisation, come up with activities that will engage students and how to support their organisations.
