Mr Ian Battersby: Weekly Update 4/11/16

04 November 2016

Education is more than simply filling children’s heads with knowledge and skills. At the British International School, HCMC we do have very high expectations of the children, and we are always working hard to improve the levels of attainment.  Alongside this, we look to provide opportunities for the children to develop the social and moral characteristics that will enable them to be true ‘global citizens’.

  • TX Weekly Update Mr Ian

This week it was an honour and a privilege to welcome Mr Le Van Cong to the Tu Xuong Campus. He told the children his story of how he overcame his disability, worked hard to become an engineer and trained to become a powerlifter.  His efforts were rewarded this September in winning the gold medal in the 49kg category at the Rio Paralympic Games, breaking the world record twice on the way to the winner’s podium.

His story and achievements were a real inspiration to the children; meeting a Paralympic champion and holding his precious gold medal are experiences that will remain with them forever.  Le Van Cong’s example sent a clear message; there is no limit to what you can achieve if you are prepared to work hard and be committed to your dreams.

International Week Preparations

Preparation for international week will be a main focus next week.  If you are not yet involved, it is not too late to come along and help other parents get ready for the week beginning November 14th. The theme this year is ‘Global Discovery’ and it will be great to find out surprising or little known facts about your home countries.

Wednesday 9th November @ 8am – Following a short presentation about why we have Remembrance Day, there will be an opportunity to continue with the preparations for International Week, including practising ‘We are the world’(performed by parents and teachers).

Friday 11th November @ 1pm – preparing boards in the foyer/ Vietnamese Room in the Multi-purpose Room.

International Buffet – please let us know what you are planning to bring to the buffet.  Sign up in the foyer or on Wednesday at the coffee morning.

Parent Lunches

At TX we are introducing Parent Lunches following the canteen menu review, which parents and teachers completed during term three of last academic year.  Parent Lunches are when we invite parents into school during lunchtime to join their children to eat lunch from the school canteen together.  Parent Lunches will give children the opportunity to share the lunchtime routines with parents and for parents to have the opportunity to dine with their children in our TX canteen.

Parents who would like to join their child’s Parent Lunch will choose the dish of their choice and sit together with their child in the canteen to eat lunch.  Please note; parents are invited to the dining session of lunchtime in the canteen only, not the playtime session.

The upcoming dates of our first Parent Lunches this term are detailed below.

Tuesday 22nd November

11:10am to 11:30am

Tuesday 29th November

11:50am to 12:10pm

Tuesday 6th December

11:50am to 12:10pm

If you would like to join your child for the Parent Lunch at the scheduled time for their year, please arrive at school 5 minutes before the beginning of the lunch time and make your way to the canteen downstairs.

Please note, Parent Lunches for Y3 to Y6 will be in term two.

If you have any questions about Parent Lunches please speak to Ms Mary.
